Dressing Pouches in our Salad Kits
|
Please note: We recently changed the artwork on our dressing pouches. The English description is ET TU ’Dressing’. We have a large customer base in Quebec, so there is a French translation of ’dressing’ under the English description, which is ’Vinaigrette’. For our Caesar Original and Light Salad Kits, some of our customers assume the pouch contains Vinaigrette dressing. This is NOT the case. We apologize for the confusion, and hope to clear it up by printing more descriptive pouches, which will be in packs soon. If you are uncertain, we welcome your call to our customer service department at our toll free number of 1-800-265-7836 or your e-mail, which you can send from the Contact Us page of this website. |
ABOUT LINSEY
In the late 70’s, I finished school and went travelling in Europe. Shortly after visiting London’s Hard Rock Café, I came home to Canada and with some friends opened the first Hard Rock Café in North America on Yonge St. in Toronto. It was there I met my wife Linda, who ran the kitchens in a few restaurants that we opened after the Hard Rock.![]() ET TU started in the back of a diner in Markham, just north of Toronto in 1987. Linda and I owned Hank’s Diner and patrons could not get enough of her homemade Caesar salad recipe. Many customers would ask if we could sell them the salad ingredients to take home. They loved the dressing but also loved the multi grain croutons made with three types of breads and lightly seasoned, the freshly grated Parmesan cheese and the crumbled bacon bits. Most people wanted the ingredients for a dinner party but many just wanted to have this Caesar Salad for their family dinner. We packed up all the ingredients separately in take out coffee cups and sent them on their way. After doing this repeatedly for months we thought this product should be made available to everyone at their local supermarkets. During an entertaining evening with friends, we came up with the name ET TU Caesar, which is a take off from the play Julius Caesar, wherein his friend Brutus, among other conspirators, is preparing to kill him. Recognizing that Brutus, too, has joined with the conspirators, Caesar speaks his last words: “Et tu, Brute?” which translates to “And you, Brutus?” We began to work on the packaging and finding ingredient suppliers that would match our homemade recipe with their quality products. In the fall of 1988, we packaged up some product in the back of the restaurant and we exhibited at the Grocery Showcase in Toronto. This was an innovative new product that was instantly accepted by grocers who all agreed it should be displayed in the produce department near the romaine lettuce. By the spring of 1989 we were listed in all the major chains in Ontario, and Western Canada. We entered the new product awards contest sponsored by the Canadian Grocer magazine and Sial D’Or and won in our category for the best new product in Canada. We were presented with the award in Paris in October of 1990. Today most Linsey items are sold in all major grocery stores in Canada. We began selling to the USA in 1992, and now sell in many major regions across America. ET TU is also sold in other areas around the world including Holland, the UK, Australia, Japan, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Linsey also makes three fabulous dessert kits: Apple Crisp, Fresh Fruit Crumble and Banana Cream Pie. Linsey Foods has now been selling the ET TU brand for almost 20 years. We have produced and sold over 150 million salads kits, and we continue to expand the ET TU franchise around the world. We hope you enjoy our products. Doug Woolsey, President |
